Are you waiting for the day you wake up and your website got extinct from the SERP’s of Search engines, If not get prepared before the dooms day arrives.

Every then and now Google comes with different updates in there algorithms and hence washing away websites ranking on top on SERP’s to nowhere to be seen. Recent updates include “Page Layout Algorithm”, “Rich Snippets Penalty” and many more. Most of us without any prior knowledge of what rich snippets are must have got a HIT by now, and being clueless of what happened to the website would be searching the search engines to at least get a glimpse of their site.

So let’s talk about Rich snippets: what are they?
Rich Snippets as Google puts it, “rich snippets are designed to summarize the content of a page in a way that makes it even easier for users to understand what the page is about in our search results.”

They include authorship, Videos, Music, recipes, business information, events varying for different websites to conclude important information to their respective target audiences. Few websites providing unnecessary / fake information on the snippets are likely to get a hit very soon by now.

How to create rich snippets data for your website?
Rich Snippets are the result of properly implemented structured data markup.
There is no shortcut inside your CMS that will implement structured data automatically, so you’ll have to apply some tech knowledge and read guidelines for the markup format you prefer:
• Microdata
• Micro formats

Getting a structured data mark up doesn’t ensure a rich snippet displayed in searches but makes it rich snippet possible.

How to avoid the penalty?

a. Markup formats
Make sure a single page consists of different mark up formats should be created from one specific mark up formats otherwise it would be problem to Google reading it.

b. Hidden Content
There should not be any hidden content in the rich snippets which appears differently to the visitors and to the search engines; this could be term as spamming in Google.

c. Matching Content
It’s a big no-no the information given in your structured data mark up (rich snippets) is different from the info provided on the website. Snippets are designed to provide synopsis of a website not to alienate the information between the two.

d. Nesting

Sometimes a markup include more than one information like company’s review and also review’s by clients, in this case the information can be misinterpreted by Google . To avoid it make sure to convey the relationship between these types of data by nesting Person information (reviewer details) inside that review.

I hope this has been helpful to you and help you getting a rich snippet website. If you found it useful Please share your comment on it.
